2021 MARION VINEYARD GRENACHE SHIRAZ

93 POINTS - “A blend of shiraz (80%) & grenache (20%) from vines over 100 years old, growing in suburban Adelaide. A lovely red wine with plenty of oomph & yet a silky, almost pinot-noir-like feel. Scents of red cherry, rosehip tea, raspberry & chamomile with cinnamon spice & black pepper dusted on. The palate is fleshy, covered in a web of lithe, velvety tannins, somewhat bright & vivacious in its red berry fruit spectrum of flavours & accompanying mix of sweet spice, eucalyptus notes & choc-vanilla smoothness. A really delightful wine, somewhat elegant, delicious & interesting, all up.”

2020 ‘JPB’ Single Vineyard Shiraz

95 POINTS - “The depth of colour verges outright on black, both the wine in the bottle & the glass bottle itself. Its flavour (blackberry & cherry), texture & structure all come from another era, arguably fitting given this wine's dedication to founder Giovanni Patritti.”
James Halliday, HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION, Aug ‘23

2021 ‘JPB’ Single Vineyard Shiraz

94 POINTS - “From a Blewitt Springs vineyard planted in the 1960s. It's a very rich, ripe & smooth red wine, bold in its carriage of stewed plum, dark chocolate, sweet tobacco, cassis, currant & fig sweet/savoury elements & the lavish dusting of clove, cedar & pencil shaving woodiness that comes with it all. The palate is potent, very supple & incredibly inky, immensely concentrated & yet wrapped in only a whisper of gently puckering, pumice stone–like tannin. It does its genre well, feels more or less balanced & offers up a sumptuous, mouth-staining experience for those seeking a red of power and presence.”

2021 MERCHANT Shiraz

92 POINTS - “This feels like traditional McLaren Vale shiraz of the bolder, inkier ilk. It offers up scents of mocha, ripe raspberry, ferrous earthiness, sooty spice, cedar & tobacco with pepper & clove dusted on. The palate is all slick, ripe fruit, raspberry-choc-swirl ice cream with spiced vanilla, coconut cream, clove, cinnamon & dusty oak flavours. It's got its bearings set & delivers satisfaction for those seeking hedonism & overtness from their shiraz.”

2020 SECTION 181 GRENACHE

90 POINTS - Ned Goodwin MW, HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION, Jul ‘23

2021 ADELAIDE HILLS VERMENTINO

TROPHY - ADELAIDE HILLS WINE SHOW

90 POINTS - “A bright & gently textural dry white wine. Lemon drop, green apple, pistachio & a ripple of phenolics conferring a modicum of authority to the bright acidity. A wine to placate the drinker of high-volume, tropical-scented wines as much as those interested in better-performing varieties well suited to a climate such as this.”

2020 MARION VINEYARD GRENACHE SHIRAZ

96 POINTS - “Vines planted 1907; 77/23% grenache/shiraz; hand picked, crushed, co-fermented, matured 10 month in used French demi-muids (600L). Deeply coloured; rich aromas of spicy fruitcake & plum open the door to a beautifully cadenced spray of fresh red & purple fruits, with superfine tannins. Great value.”
James Halliday, HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION, Mar ‘22

2019 ‘JPB’ Single Vineyard Shiraz

93 POINTS - “Matured for 15 months in a range of mostly larger-format new oak, predominantly French, though a good portion American as well. Patritti's own Blewitt Springs vineyard, with lean yields & lofty aims. Some new oak here suggests heavy oak influence on the wine, but while it's there, it's not overly dominant. There's a touch of coconut & vanilla on the finish perhaps, but it respects the energy of the fruit, which has a distinctive acidity & earthiness, with a coat of bright tannins to finish.”
Tony Love, HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION, Aug ‘22

2019 MERCHANT GSM

90 POINTS - “More grenache this year than last: 85% from Patritti's own Vales vineyards, with 10% shiraz sourced from elsewhere in the Vale; the remainder a dollop of Barossa mourvèdre, with 8% whole bunches in the various ferments. The grenache dominance shows, with a saline, bloody character. The wine as a whole has a fair amount of power to show for itself, reverbing with some raspberry liquorice flavours. Big boned yet comfortable in its skin.”
